THE PROBLEM
The website for the Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT) was a 150-page spider web of old information, broken links and hard-to-find resources. While some items took minutes to find, others were out of date, hidden or missing. In order to register for a class, members had to call the office.

THE SOLUTION
With members across the United States and Canada needing to use the website, the best tactic to improve SMOHIT’s goals — ensuring all members have access to information — was a re-designed, re-imagined website with new functionalities, including class registration capability, user-friendly navigation and updated content.

THE RESULTS
Overall page views increased in five months post-launch over the same time the previous year, and members-only logins to the website increased by 87.3%. The redesign decreased the number of website pages from more than 150 to 35 at the time of launch, and the website speed improved from a 4.15-second load time to 2.17 seconds, or 47.7%, meeting expectations. The website renovation also was honored with a Pinnacle Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Las Vegas Chapter.
