THE PROBLEM

The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce (BCCC) wanted to replace its outdated list of member restaurants with a unique, memorable guide to local bars and dining establishments. Rather than a simple Google Maps template, they wanted something that evoked the history of Boulder City, founded in 1928. A finely illustrated map could act as a dual marketing effort, delighting tourists and also appealing to potential chamber members.

THE SOLUTION

Imagine’s design team leaned into the style of vintage roadside attraction art to produce glyphs representing 30 restaurants and bars — not logos but original illustrations inspired by each establishment’s ambiance and menu. These glyphs populated an 11-by-17-inch map of Boulder City, with information and graphics about upcoming chamber events at the bottom and restaurant information featured as if taped to an old-fashioned announcement board.

THE RESULTS

The map has been a local and industry darling since its release, adding a Hermes Gold Award, MarCom Gold Award and a Pinnacle Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Las Vegas Chapter to our trophy shelf. As new restaurants join the chamber, they are added to the map, which is printed in-house at the BCCC offices as needed. Guests at the Boulder City Welcome Center eagerly grab copies, and one of the chamber’s new members said a main reason they joined was to be on the map. A representative from another newly added restaurant, the Cornish Pasty Co., said “I wish our other locations had a map like this one to be a part of. We love our pasty icon marking our location!”
